Organists Online and The Harlow Singers invite choirs and singers to a study afternoon of new repertoire in preparation for Advent and Christmas (and a little bit of Epiphany). This will be based on the pieces from the Small Choirs site which, amongst its list of over 800 free, downloadable, copyright cleared works, has 24 suitable for Advent, 185 suitable for Christmas, and 6 suitable for Epiphany.

The Small Choirs site is dedicated to choirs with few or no men, and the pieces available range from unison settings, through two parts and SA Men (many of them flexible), to more complex pieces for SAA Men.

Participation is free
There will be an optional collection

Structure for the Day

The day will be led by Philip Norman, Conductor of The Harlow Singers and founder of Organists Online:
  • 1.30 pm: Light refreshments available;

  • 2.00 pm: We sing examples of music from the Small Choirs site. All music is provided. We also learn how to use the Small Choirs site most effectively;

  • 3.30 pm: Refreshment break;

  • 4.00 pm: We look at other sources of small choirs music and how to make our own arrangements with almost no musical knowledge;

  • 5.00 pm: End.

During the course of the afternoon, we shall also look at some of the fundamentals of choral singing, such as the placing of consonants, dipthongs, and breathing, etc.
