The Revd David Roberts

A new chapter is soon to begin in the United Parish of Crucorney when, on Thursday 8 September, a new vicar is instituted.

A new chapter also begins for the Revd David Roberts and his wife Tess as he is instituted as that new vicar.

It has been proposed that a special choir should sing at the service of institution, both to heartily support the hymn singing and to add a couple of pieces of their own. It is envisaged that many of these singers will come from the soon-to-be-formed Ministry Area into which the United Parish falls, but any interested singers will be welcome.

As mentioned above, it's likely that many of the singers will come from the churches soon to be part of the new Ministry Area. That is, these parishes:

• Llantilio Pertholey (St Teilo, Bettws Chapel)
• Llanfihangel Crucorney Group (United Parish of Crucorney) (St David, St Martin, St Michael)
• Grosmont (St Nicholas)
• Skenfrith (St Bride)
• Llanfair (St Mary)
• Llangattock Lingoed (St Cadoc)
• Llanaddewi Rydderch (St David)
• Llanarth & Llansantfraed (St Bridget)
• Llangattock - j - Usk (St Cadoc)
• Llantilio Crossenny (St Teilo)
• Penrhos (St Cadoc)
• Llanvetherine (St James the Elder)
• Llanvapley (St Mable)
• Llanddewi Skirrid (St David)

However, as also mentioned above, any singers from anywhere who wish to participate will be welcome. (As long as you can carry a tune in a bucket, we will mould you into a choral singer, but you might find it useful to use the rehearsal tracks below and come to the first rehearsal a bit prepared .)

There will be two rehearsals, both in St Michael's Church:

• Wednesday 7 September: 7.30 - 9.30 pm;
• Thursday 8 September: 6.00 - 6.45 pm.

For those singers who feel the need for more practice time, downloadable rehearsal tracks (see below) will be available by 22 August.

The service itself, at 7.30 pm on the Thursday, could last until 9.00 pm or thereabouts.

As this will not be a formally constituted church choir, smart casual will be acceptable.

There is no last date per se: extra singers will be accepted up to the last minute before the first rehearsal. At the time this page was updated (10 August) we have 16 voices spread across all parts, so will be singing in SATB.

Music books will be provided for you, so it will not be necessary for you to print your own music. However, printing and collating takes time, so if possible, please register by

Monday 29 August.

Some spare books will be produced for late registrations, but we can't conjure up dozens of books at the last moment.

Rehearsal Tracks

They are in MP3 format and downloadable to computers, phones, etc, etc. The general tracks gives and overall impression of each piece, whereas the voice specific tracks emphasise the named parts. They are electronically generated so, in themselves, not very lovely.
