St Michael's Stockwell
Stockwell Park Road

Musical Requirements:

St Michael's Stockwell is looking for a competent musician, either a pianist who can lead a congregation with a Clavinova organ sound, or an experienced Organist who is happy to play without pedals. There is a small choir who need a rehearsal on the hymns before the service. The Parish is looking to develop its music ministry substantially over the next period of years: you would be working in partnership with the Director of Music, and playing and leading the music regularly at the 11:15am service and occasionally at the 9:45am.

For the right candidate this is a job with much potential - the church hosts an Arts Festival every October, involving drama, opera, art, choirs and an orchestra that regularly rehearse in the building with the Assistant Artistic Director of the Festival. There are scratch choirs formed for Easter and Christmas, and also for the Sockwell neighbourhood festival that takes place in June. Long term, the PCC are seeking to recommission the currently retired original organ, or purchase a new instrument for this mid-19th century building in the Stockwell Conservation area.

If you are a recent conservatoire graduate based in South West London, this job may suit you. Key skills we are looking for include conducting and directing a choir. More experienced candidates may also thrive in this role - the right personality is essential, certainly. The church currently runs a solemn Eucharist at the 11:15am service and a more informal Communion at the 9:45am service. There is a joint service between the two congregations once a month.

Other details:

Renumeration currently 77.00 a service. If you are flexible enough, there may be up to 6 services a month to play for.
