Dr Toby Huitson
I have been playing the organ for services since the 1990s and have 10 years experience as Assistant Organist at St Leonard's, Hythe, and 5 years experience as Organist & Choirmaster at St Mary's, Folkestone. I currently play for monthly services at several churches in the Canterbury district and also freelance on request.
Qualifications: Open University Diploma in Music, 2001 and ABRSM Grade 7 Organ and Piano while at school. I am a published author and have written about the Organs of Canterbury Cathedral (2001) and its choristers (2020), as well as a monograph based on my PhD in architectural history, including the siting of organs and choirs in medieval upper spaces.
Composition: Winner of Archbishop's Hymn-writing competition 1998, highest placed in Pep Organ Competition 2023, and joint runner-up in the Blackburn Cathedral Lent Composition Competition 2025.
