James Luxton

I am currently Assistant Director of Music at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral (since 2014), where I direct daily Catholic liturgies (my chief responsibilities being for the girl choristers and the Youth Choir of ex-choristers); I play the organ regularly.

In my free time, I enjoy arranging and composing. I also direct the Cantata Choir, based at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

Although I’m a Catholic, I have extensive Anglican training/experience: previous posts include Sub-Assistant Organist, Worcester Cathedral (2012-2014), Assistant Director of Music, St Peter’s Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton (2011-2012). I was also Organ Scholar at St Chad’s Cathedral (2007-2009).

My qualifications are: B.Mus(Hons), First Class, from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (2006-2010); ARCO (with Limpus, Frederick Shinn, Durrant, Doris Wookey and Dr F J Read prizes, 2011); FRCO (2012).

I was made an Honorary Member of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2015 (HonRBC).
