VACANCY
PIANO AND ORGAN PLAYER
TO ACCOMPANY CHOIR

East Surrey Choral Society is looking for an accompanist to join us in Autumn 2026.
Responsibilities:
• Provide piano accompaniment for weekly rehearsals
• Accompany the choir for concerts on organ or piano as required
• Occasionally lead rehearsals from the keyboard
• The opportunity to play a solo piece in a concert

We need someone with excellent piano and organ skills and experience of accompanying choirs. Candidates should be comfortable playing a wide range of repertoire and be able to support the conductor and choir with sensitivity as new repertoire as learned.

ESCS is an established, friendly, mixed-voice choir with more than 50 singers. We are non-auditioned but we aim for high standards. We perform three concerts a year. Our Christmas and Easter concerts feature major choral works or parts thereof accompanied by piano or organ (occasionally with a small orchestra). In summer we perform lighter music. See below.

We rehearse weekly during term time (including half-term) at the Centenary Hall, Essendene Road, Caterham, Surrey CR3 5PB. Our concerts are held in Caterham United Reformed Church and St John’s Church, Old Coulsdon. Your permanent residence must be within reasonable commuting distance from these venues.

Remuneration is based on a fee per rehearsal and per concert and engagement is self-employed. Short-listed candidates will be required to accompany the choir for half a rehearsal in varied genres and from SATB score.

Reply by email to secretary@escs.org.uk and b.anne.smith@ntlworld.com including your CV outlining your suitability for this role. Closing date for applications: 31st August 2026.

ESCS is a self-financing Registered Charity run by an elected committee. Find out more at www.escs.org.uk.
