Other details:
St. Lawrence is a church standing in the central tradition of Anglicanism. We have a robed choir, and use the 'Common Praise' hymnbook at our 9.30am Sunday Parish Eucharist. Our organ (details available here: https://npor.org.uk/survey/N14009) is highly regarded by those who have played it. We have recently established the pattern of a monthly Choral Evensong (5pm on the 2nd Sunday of every month). The parish is firmly committed to building up our musical and choral life, and has recently appointed a Director of Music who directs the choir. There are around 10 funerals a year in church, and between 5 and 8 weddings per year. The appointed organist would of course have first refusal on these. There are special services throughout the year on e.g Candlemas, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Advent Sunday. Our Nine Lessons and Carols service is usually a major event in the life of the village, with the church absolutely packed. We currently have one organist who can play at one or two services a month: we'd hope that this would offer the appointed organist some welcome flexibility. We are assuming a standard fee of £75 for playing at the Sunday Eucharist, Choral Evensong, and other services. Weddings and funerals are both paid at £125. An organist who played at 42 parish eucharists throughout the year, six choral evensongs, five weddings and five funerals, and five special services would make just over £5000. The parish is located just outside Watford, with very easy access from Junction 19 of the M25.
