Parish of St Luke’s Woodside
South Norwood - SE25, London
Organist - 3 services per month (with significant potential for development of role)
£3400 P.A. (variable, depending on duties, please see below)
St Luke’s Woodside is a parish with a strong support for music, it is a church with a lively modern catholic tradition, socially and culturally mixed, and with a thriving all age congregation. Earlier this year they appointed Christopher Braime as Director of Music who has begun work with the adult church choir and establishing youth singing in the parish. A great deal of support has been given already by the church administration to support this. As a result we have recently secured a grant from the Diocese of Southwark for a summer school to give access to singing and musical education for any young person regardless of need; applications for further developments are also underway.
Now is an incredibly exciting time to be part of music at St Lukes, as we begin to create a thriving music department.
We are looking for an organist to support our mass services on a Sunday morning, three services a month (third Sunday in the month off, although additional Sundays are entirely negotiable). However, this is a role that would suit someone who would be interested in developing an Assistant Director of Music position (with increasing pay rewards to reflect this). Please note that we will be starting an evensong service once a month toward the end of 2025 (Wednesday evenings) for which it would be hoped you would play.
Working alongside Christopher Braime, freelance choral and orchestral conductor as well as Director of Music at St Lukes, your first responsibility will be to accompany the three services a month.
However, for those seeking career progression - training in directing/conducting can be given, and additional responsibilities are available for anyone wishing to develop this role. We would be particularly interested in candidates who saw potential in this side of the role. It should be reiterated that any development of the role would be remunerated accordingly in collaboration with the post holder.
Additional paid opportunities will develop further in the year when the parish begins an evensong services at which there would be additional opportunities for expanding the role. There will also be the usual additional paid opportunities for playing at funerals/baptisms.
