Organ music of organists's choice at beginning and end of service and other points, and for trad hymns. Some more modern hymns and songs on piano, which is next to the organ, and also liturgical music. No choir (yet, we are a new parish and working on it)but some people with experience as singers or with percussion instruments.
Our fellowship have been complaining about not enough organ music since our regular organist left, and organ music is much appreciated. But we like other styles of music too, a few modern songs, tambourines and drums and rhythms from Africa or the Caribbean. Music in services is very important to our members.
We try to have a run-through the hymns for the day in the half hour before the service.
Mostly we use Celebration Hymnal as the congregation are familiar with it and like it, but have some additional songs.
We are looking for an organist who will play as an example for some musicians with less experience to attend if they are looking to apply when we advertise our permanent post. If you can play for three servicess in November, that would be very helpful.
