The organist's duties are to• accompany the congregational singing of four hymns• play a voluntary before and after each serviceThe ideal candidate would be a competent organist with some experience of playing at church services, but…• pianists and keyboard players looking for a new challenge are also welcome to apply• practical skills are more important than formal qualifications• even if you could only play once a month, we would still like to hear from you
We would consider increasing our standard fee of £50 per service for an organist whose skills and experience exceed our basic requirements. The organ dates from 1840; it was built by William Hill & Son and has been classed Grade II* by the British Institute of Organ Studies, signifying a 'particularly important organ of more than special interest'. It is in good working order and is serviced annually by Wintle Organs.St Mary's is a 15th-century Grade I listed church in the picturesque village of Ewelme (population 600) at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, two miles from the Thames at Benson. We are a small and friendly congregation and would love to have our own organist again.
