St Michael's Stockwell
Stockwell Park Road
St Michael’s Stockwell PCC seeks to appoint a suitably experienced and personable Director of Music, with responsibility for music at all our services.
St Michael’s is based in the Stockwell Conservation area, 8 mins walk from Stockwell tube, and has big ambitions to develop the church as an arts venue and community hub. The St Michael’s Arts Festival runs every October, now in its 3rd year, and offers a wide ranging programme including much music. The Director of Music at the church would be encouraged to participate in this, in discussion with the Festival Artistic team.
We have two congregations meeting at our church on a Sunday with a regular joint service once a month. Service times are usually 945am and 1115am. The 945am offers a more family type of worship, with a small robed choir that will need rehearsing beforehand. We have a sung liturgy at both services and the 1115am is a more formal, Anglo Catholic style service. The Director of Music would be responsible for playing for both services or arranging a suitable deputy, plus arranging payments of fees etc.
In addition to weekly duties, we have periodic scratch choirs formed for Christmas, Easter and the two annual festivals based in the area. There are also a small number of periodic weddings and funerals.
The role would suit a committed Christian professional musician, possibly a recent University or Music Conservatoire graduate. The instrument at the church is currently a Clavinova: the appointee would be expected to help lead on plans to restore or replace the current retired Organ at the church.
Please contact the current Director of Music, Justin Harmer, for further details or to arrange a meeting.
Please send a CV in the first instance.
