Musical Requirements:
Needed for a high-achieving polyphonic choir established for over 10 years, singing at 12 Noon Mass every Sunday and for major feasts throughout the year.
Usual Sunday pattern is:
2 hymns
Responsorial psalm
2 motets/anthems (offertory and communion)
Congregational or plainchant setting of the Ordinary
The communion and seasonal Marian antiphons
Choral settings of the Ordinary are welcome for feasts and solemnities.
The parish has a professional organist who accompanies the choir and congregation and can deputise for the choirmaster.
The choir rehearses at 10:45am each Sunday; there is no other midweek rehearsal.
There are currently 4 sopranos, 3 altos, 3 tenors and 3 basses.
The parish funds a choral scholarship at £1200 per year. The choirmaster selects which voice parts are needed and advertises accordingly.
Choirmaster receives first refusal on all choral conducting work in the parish, including weddings and funerals.
Responsibilities
Rehearse and conduct the choir for the 12 O'clock Mass every Sunday and other agreed Holy Days
Set monthly music lists, in collaboration with the parish priest.
Recruit singers to grow the choir & to fill scholarship positions
Current rate of pay is £90 per Sunday and £100 for feast days.
