Musical Requirements:
We are seeking a secondary school aged Organ Scholar for academic year 2025/26, to continue our 40 year tradition of our Scholarship.
Previous Scholars have gone on to study music at University, in some cases, and former Scholars who now work at Cathedral level include Mark Lee (Bristol) and James Bowstead (Wakefield.)
You will be given a weekly free Organ lesson, ideally at 6pm each Friday. You then join us for Adult Choir from 7.30pm until 9pm.
On Sundays you arrive by 9.15am ahead of our Sung Eucharist. This ends at 10.45am. You may then wish to stay to help supervise Junior Choir from 11am until 11.45am, followed by Theory Time until 12.30pm.
Almost uniquely within Diocese of Chelmsford, Evensong is still sung every single week. We meet at 5pm for Choral Evensongs or 5.15 for Sung Evensong, ahead of the 6pm service.
You don't have to have played the organ before to apply for this Scholarship. But roughly Grade 5 keyboard skills will be needed. How much you play in public will depend on your confidence and abilities.
We have 4 priests across our Benefice of 9 churches and a Director of Music with Enhanced DBS Disclosure to supervise this superb educational and musical opportunity.
