Musical Requirements:
Instruments: Excellent 3-manual and pedal, well-maintained, 36-stop pipe organ which has been regularly used for practice, teaching, concerts and recitals. The specification can be found on the National Pipe Organ register here: NPOR entry. We also have an upright piano in the chancel.
Music and worship: Our friendly and active church community has a strong musical tradition, enthusiastically supported by congregation and clergy. Due to our Musician in Residence moving on we are now seeking an organist to continue building our musical capabilities in support of worship. Our style is mainstream/traditional using Common Worship, with opportunities to broaden the range of music as desired. Our organ-led congregational singing at the weekly Eucharist includes hymns, responses, the Gospel Alleluia and sung parts of the Eucharistic prayer. Once a month the Sunday Service is a Service of the Word with 5 hymns and where there is potential to develop the music further. Our congregation enjoy organ voluntaries and many sit and listen at the end of the service.
Main duties: to play the organ for the 9:30am Sunday service each week.
To play the organ at services which fall on festivals such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Ascension, All Souls’ and the Christingle and Carol Services at Christmas.
All services would be paid at the rate of £60:00 per service, reviewed annually.
We would guarantee a minimum of 60 services with organ music, the dates of which would be agreed annually.
Where organ music is required at weddings and funerals the organist would set the rate and invoice the parties involved independently should they wish to play. There would be no requirement to find a cover organist if the organist does not or cannot play.
Other details:
We would like applications from organists with existing rights to work in the UK. We are unable to act as sponsor for those in different circumstances.
The role is subject to a service-level contract which we would negotiate with interested parties.
You would be expected to complete The Church of England’s Safeguarding training to foundation level and this post requires an enhanced DBS.
