Musical Requirements:
The University of Greenwich Choir is a 70-strong chorus made up of students, staff, alumni and friends of the University of Greenwich. The choir rehearses on Monday evenings during term-time and gives public performances throughout the year including at the University Carol Services and in large choral-orchestral concerts, as well as less formal settings. The choir sings a wide variety of music including classical, folk, pop, jazz and musical theatre.
We are looking for an piano accompanist for our rehearsals (Mondays in term-time, 6:30-8:30pm) and for our four performances a year, usually late October (informal concert on campus), Carol service at the end of November (in the Old Royal Naval College Chapel), spring concert (large choral work with orchestra) and summer concert (informal performance). The choir rehearses on the University of Greenwich campus in Greenwich, and the nearest stations are Greenwich (12 minute walk) and Cutty Sark DLR (7 minute walk).
We are seeking someone with excellent piano skills, experience accompanying choral ensembles, and who is comfortable playing a wide range of repertoire. In the last year, we have performed works from Haydn’s ‘Creation’ and Bach ‘ St John Passion’, to Kate Bush ‘Running up that Hill’. In the past, our accompanist has played the organ in concerts. Additionally, there are opportunities to conduct the choir in the absence of the Conductor if desired, which will attract an increased fee.
Other details:
Our accompanist is engaged on a self-employed basis. The fee is £90 per rehearsal.
Please apply with CV, covering letter (maximum 1 page) and details of two referees to our Conductor, Olivia Shotton, at o.shotton@greenwich.ac.uk by midday on Monday 26th May 2025. Candidates will be notified by 9pm on Monday 26th May with the outcome of their application. Please note, if you would like to apply but are not available for the audition date, please send an application and state this in the email, as we will consider a further audition date for the right candidate.
