Musical Requirements:

• Lead the weekly choir practice (at present on a Friday evening)
• Provide high-quality organ music and choral leadership for Sunday services and major festivals.
• Maintain and build up the choir, working to recruit new members, developing the vocal skills of choir members and expanding its repertoire
• Establish opportunities for children and young people to sing through regular after-school activities
• Along with the clergy, to develop links with local schools and the wider community to encourage musical participation
• Work with the Vicar to choose appropriate music that enhances our liturgy and supports our mission
• Periodically meet with the Vicar and other colleagues, for the planning and review of music in worship
• Make reasonable endeavours to play and arrange the music for weddings, funerals and memorial services, for which fees are payable
• Book and prepare the choir to sing at weddings, funerals and memorial services as required
• Comply with Health and Safety requirements, including making Risk Assessments
• Comply with our Safeguarding Policy - this includes being subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Person specification:
• High standard of competence playing the organ.
• Ability to lead and train a choir of adults.
• Experience of developing music activities with young people and/or children.
• Ability to support the mission of a parish church and the discipleship of church members through its musical life.
• Willingness to work inclusively and collaboratively with clergy and others.
• Administrative and record-keeping skills appropriate to the responsibilities of the post.
• Familiarity with copyright law applicable to church music.
• Understanding of the liturgies and worshipping life of the Church of England.
