Musical Requirements:
Each year the regular choir at St George's is augmented by several other local singers to form a keen and reasonably capable 20-25 strong choir which sings a traditional Carol Service attracting a congregation of about 120 people. The service consists of traditional congregational carols and readings plus about 5 choir-only items, most of which require sympathetic accompaniment on organ or piano. I rehearse and conduct the choir for this service, and therefore need the services of an organist. Whilst the difficulty of the accompaniments is not great I need an organist who is 100% reliable and can take an appropriately supportive role should the choir go off at a tangent!!
Other details:
The choir rehearse on the four Fridays preceding the services but I do not need an organist for these. On the day of the service there is a full rehearsal with organ at 3.30pm - 5.15pm. There are then some light refreshments before the service at 6pm. Organ voluntaries are required before and after the service.
The organ is a pleasant 2 manual Binns with tubular pneumatic action. Whilst generally it is in good working order, this summer has done it no favours and 2 or 3 notes are giving some trouble. Hopefully the organ will soon settle.
Communication between organ and conductor is via CCTV.
Visiting organists are assured of a warm welcome to our lovely village church which is celebrating its 150th Anniversary of the opening of the existing building this year.
