St Mary Magdalene Church, Church Road, Harlow, Essex, CM17 9HD
We would like a Director of Music to play our two-manual tracker action organ for 11am Sunday Mass (Anglican), at which there is a congregational Mass setting and a small choir which occasionally sings a motet -about once a month and on significant occasions. The Director of Music would also be required to hold regular choir practices, currently held on Sunday mornings at 10am but this is open to negotiation. The Director of Music would be required to play at the other usual major festivals and at weddings and funerals (fees paid separately for weddings and funerals). Some flexibility with this commitment would be considered. Our current musical style is traditional.
The parish is firmly within the Catholic tradition and our worship is centred around the Mass: we are looking for someone who is comfortable with that tradition and who can also encourage us to explore new approaches to worship and has experience in building and leading choirs. About once a month we have a less formal service suitable for all ages.
The choir is a small but committed and enthusiastic choir which welcomes all singers regardless of technical ability. They are looking to develop their musical skills and need the positive encouragement to do so. As well as singing on Sunday mornings and major festivals the choir sings several items at the service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Christmas.
We occasionally join with our Baptist neighbours for a joint Songs of Praise service.
The date above is the closing date for applications. We aim to interview and audition candidates shortly after Easter. The starting date can be flexible
