The church, under a new Rector and Director of Music, will be seeking to establish a choral foundation with paid singers on all parts, supplementing and leading the parish volunteers of the existing choir. Good sight reading and well trained voice essential. There will be ample opportunity for small ensemble and solo work. Each paid singer, 18 years of age or older, essentially sings as a section leader/soloist for the majority of the services, so candidates will need the experience, vocal technique and stamina to fulfill this function, playing a valuable and vital part of the church's ministry. Experience of singing in a choral ensemble of professional standard helpful, It would also be helpful if candidates were sympathetic to the ethos and purposes of St Nicolas Church, have a good vocal range and flexibility, willingness to work confidently as part of a small and close-knit team, and have the ability to respond quickly and positively to direction. It is essential to have an understanding of the professional nature of the job, the drive to undertake adequate personal preparation, adhering to current best safeguarding practice. A good working knowledge of the Anglican Choral repertoire would be desirable.
The Organist and Director of Music is Rick Erickson, M.Mus., M.Th.S. The Sunday schedule will be 9.30 run through, 10.00 choral Eucharist, followed by rehearsal for the upcoming weeks. Eventually a monthy choral evensong will require a choir (who will then generally be excused from the morning service). In addition to the regular routine the choir sings for special services throughout the year, mainly on major Feast Days, including Christmas and Easter.
