St Peter's Great Berkhamsted
We are looking for a skilled and dedicated organist who will thrive as part of a team leading the worship at our parish church. The Rector and Director of Music now seek to appoint an organist to join the team of musicians and clergy. He or she must be an accomplished organist and accompanist who is in sympathy with the liturgical and musical traditions of the church. It would be desirable that they would be experienced in directing parish choirs predominantly made up of amateur singers.
St Peter’s Berkhamsted, is a welcoming liberal-catholic parish of the Church of England in the Diocese of St Albans. The church has a long-established robed choir of choristers (boys and girls) and adults that enriches worship for the weekly Parish Mass (9.30 a.m.), monthly Choral Evensong, and on feast days and special civic occasions. As one of the largest churches in the area, it is regularly used for concerts by choirs, orchestras, chamber groups and soloists of both amateur and professional nature.
The organ was built in 1986 by Peter Collins, using pipework from the previous Walker instrument, and was restored in 2011 by Vincent Woodstock. There is also a Bryceson organ in the Lady Chapel from c.1850 that is in need of restoration. There is also a modern Kawai grand piano that is maintained at a professional standard.
The appointment is subject to safer recruitment including an enhanced DBS clearance and references.
