The Parish Church of St Stephen & St Thomas
1 Coverdale Road
The Sunday Eucharist begins at 10:00 and we appreciate music before and after the service.
Playing on Holy Days including at Christmas and Easter will be required, plus putting on a Christmas Carol Service with the Choir.
Once a month there is a 10.00am half-hour children’s service, and ability to lead the singing with a guitar for this would be an asset, but not essential.
There will be the possibility of developing other services in the future, in collaboration with the Director of Music.
There are two or three funerals a month and one or two weddings a year, payable in addition to salary.
Weddings and funerals are occasionally partly or wholly recorded by the family. This would be for the family’s personal use and not for any commercial purposes.
St Stephen's is a family church with an average weekly congregation of 80 adults plus 45 children. St Stephen’s C of E Primary School adjoins the church.
Remuneration is in line with RSCM rates and will reflect the successful applicant’s experience.
A small amateur SATB Choir leads the singing, comprising six traditional hymns (Common Praise) mixed with modern music (Taizé, e.g.). The choir practices on one evening a week (currently on Wednesdays) and will thrive under an inspirational leader.
The organ, dating from 1888, is a two-manual Henry Willis & Sons and is regularly maintained.
There is also a Bechstein concert grand piano in the church.
The church has a one-bedroom ground floor key worker flat, the front door to which is in the church grounds. This flat can be made available to the successful applicant, under a separate rental arrangement.
The post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
A one-year renewable contract would be offered.
This is a great opportunity to work with an exciting church in a popular part of West London.
