Musical Requirements:
Tottenham Minister Community is a group of four churches: St Mary the Virgin, St Philip the Apostle, All Hallows and the Good Shepherd, all based in Tottenham, North London. We are currently looking for an Assistant Organist to work alongside the Director of Music, Organ Scholar, cantors, and clergy in the leading of the musical life of our churches. The principal duties will be:
1. To accompany The Mass each Sunday morning at either St Marys or St Philips or All Hallows.
4.To support the work of the Director of Music and carry out such other tasks as he/she may
delegate from time to time. This may occasionally include playing for weddings or funerals (which includes an additional fee) when he/she is unavailable.
The post is intended for a skilled organist ideally to ARCO standard or with equivalent experience, particularly in liturgical playing in a Traditional Anglo Catholic style.
A normal Sunday Mass at both St Marys and St Philips starts at 10am and includes voluntary pre and post Mass, four (St Philips) or five (St Marys) hymns, accompanying plainsong propers and psalm, accompanying Latin plainsong Mass settings (St Philips), or English settings (St Marys). Hymns are from a range of sources but predominantly from the New English Hymnal.
All Hallows has an occasional morning worship at 11am and consist of five hymns, again from a range of sources.
Other details:
The Assistant Organist would be permitted the use of the organ for private practice whenever the church is not otherwise in use and may also use the organ to give lessons.
There would be opportunities for the giving of organ lessons and to perform at recitals. The Assistant Organist will work under the direction of the Director of Music. He/she will be entitled to six Sundays off each year.
